The biggest ammount we ever get to write is 6,000 words, but that's still nothing. It's, what, about a single chapter? See, I'd love to write a full book, but I'm afraid that I won't have the motivation to complete it from start to finish. But if we had an assignment to do that then I'd be able to, and then foreverafter I'd be all "oh, I wrote a book at University, so I can do it again whenever!"
